The Ministry of Justice is preparing a bill.

The Latvian Ministry of Justice will prepare a bill prohibiting the presence in Latvia of vehicles registered in Belarus and Russia, LETA reports citing Minister of Justice Inese Lībiņa-Egnere.

The head of the Latvian Ministry of Justice explained that if a vehicle is not re-registered or removed from Latvia within three months, it will be confiscated.

“If vehicles with Russian and Belarusian license plates are not re-registered in time, it is possible that they could be confiscated in favor of Ukraine, which is supporting its army on the front line,” the minister emphasized.

In Latvia they explained that the bill was prepared on the basis of the clarifications of the European Commission, according to which all things purchased in Russia and subject to sanctions regulations, including cars, smartphones and laptops, are prohibited from being imported into the territory of the European Union. The changes planned in Latvia also include a ban on vehicles registered in Belarus, taking into account the sanctions imposed by the EU against Belarus.

Earlier, Latvia banned cars registered in Russia from entering the country.
