One More Belarusian Region Returns Border Crossing Tax

The tax will be levied from 1 February.

The local tax in the amount of one basic unit will be returned for vehicles crossing the state border at checkpoints in Hrodna region. This is stated in the decision of the regional ‘council of deputies’ of 26 December 2024 № 67, which is published on the National Legal Internet Portal.

The fee will be levied from 1 February 2025, its value will be one basic unit (42 rubles).

The following are exempted from paying the levy:

representatives of state bodies performing official duties (if there are supporting documents);

citizens travelling for medical assistance and their accompanying persons (if there is a decision of a special commission of the Ministry of Health);

accompanying young children travelling for treatment in sanatoriums and health resorts (if supporting documents are available);

foreigners invited by Belarusian state bodies to participate in events in Belarus (if there are supporting documents);

foreigners and stateless persons who have documents confirming significant physical limitations (75-100% disability) issued by the competent authorities of their country;

persons travelling to attend the funeral of family members or close relatives (if they have supporting documents);

persons travelling under deportation or expulsion orders (if they have supporting documents).

We remind you that at the end of December last year, Hrodna Regional Executive Committee warned that the local fee for border crossing would be reintroduced in the first quarter of 2025.

Earlier, Brest and Vitsebsk regions announced the return of the fee from 1 February.

The local fee for border crossing was levied until 1 January 2025 by three regions - Brest, Vitsebsk and Hrodna. Brest and Hrodna regions temporarily discontinued it from 1 to 31 January 2025.
