Exceeding Radiation In Products Detected In Homel Region

Exceedance of norms was detected in four districts.

Territorial units of radiation control in Homel region examined 135 samples of food products and 11 water samples for the content of caesium-137 in December. Among them, 90 samples were taken in the public sector and no excesses of caesium-137 and strontium-90 were found in them.

‘45 samples of food products were examined for caesium-137 content in the private sector, exceedances of hygienic standards were found in 8 (17.8%) samples: four samples of dried mushrooms, three samples of fresh mushrooms and their products, one sample of wild animal meat,’ the press service specified.

Homel Sanitary and Epidemiological Surveillance said that exceeding the standards of radiation content in food products were detected in Vetka, Kalinkavichy, Mazyr and Naroulia districts.

Also, 51 samples of water and food products were tested for strontium-90 content, but no exceedances were found.

The specialized department reminded that it is possible to check food products produced in private farms, as well as gifts from the forest, in any territorial centre of hygiene and epidemiology.

‘The studies for the population are free of charge,’ the press service of the institution emphasised.
