Qatar mediated the talks.

The Israeli authorities and the leadership of the Hamas terrorist group have signed an agreement on a ceasefire and releasing hostages held by terrorists. This was announced at a press conference on Wednesday, 15 January, by Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdel Rahman Al-Thani. His country acted as an intermediary in the negotiations. According to the Qatari Prime Minister, hostilities will cease from 19 January. Earlier, the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reported that it remained for the participants of the negotiations on the Gaza Strip in Doha to agree on a few more points, writes DW.

Mediators and Trump also say that a deal has been made.

US President-elect Donald Trump also claimed that the parties to the conflict had reached an agreement and the Hamas hostages would soon be released. ‘We have reached a deal on the hostages in the Middle East. They will soon be released,’ Trump wrote on Truth Social.

Earlier in the day, a number of media outlets, notably The Times of Israel and the British BBC media company, wrote that a ceasefire deal had been reached and that it would be officially announced in the ‘coming hours.’
