Top Russian Oligarch Declares Bankruptcy

The oligarch of the Boris Yeltsin era, Vladimir Gusinsky, who owned NTV and Ekho Moskvy, was left without a business and 'accumulated' debts of almost $7.5 million, writes the Agency, which studied Gusinsky’s financial report.
The document, as the publication specifies, was presented by the businessman to the Connecticut court in the United States on January 1, 2025, as part of a divorce process that has been going on for almost three years. Gusinsky’s wife Elena confirmed the authenticity of the report.
According to the document, Gusinsky's debts to ten creditors exceed $7.3 million, while his remaining assets are valued at just over $5.9 million. He owns two houses in Connecticut, a Mercedes S550, an account at the Israeli bank Mizrahi-Tefahot, and jewelry.
The entrepreneur's weekly expenses, according to the report, are $4,990. $2,308 is for rent in Israel, $750 goes to groceries, $462 for home improvements, $456 for car maintenance, $403 for medicine, $323 for gas, $192 for child benefits, and $96 for clothing. Gusinsky's two remaining companies are currently going through bankruptcy proceedings. These are the media projects News Ru Israel LTD and New Media Holding LLC.
The Agency recalled that in the 90s, Gusinsky was one of the top oligarchs, who created Most Bank and owned NTV, Ekho Moskvy, the Itogi magazine and other media assets.
