They may be sent to Finland from the Russian Federation.
The migrants who were in Belarus on the territory bordering Poland have been taken away in the direction of Russia. This was stated by Colonel of the Polish Border Guard Service Andrzej Stasiulewicz on Thursday, 16 January, reports PAP.
According to Stasiulewicz, Lukashenka may be preparing in this way for the upcoming ‘elections.’
‘At some point we noticed that migrants were being taken out of the border zone towards Russia. Lukashenka may want calm in the country before the presidential ‘elections’,’ Andrzej Stasiulewicz said.
The border guard colonel added that the people who were in the border service may be exploited and sent from Russia to Finland.
According to the Polish Border Guard Service, 86 people tried to cross the border in the first two weeks of January 2025. It noted that this is significantly less than the average for 2024, when more than 80 border crossing attempts were recorded daily. Statistics show that since the last week of September 2024, there has been a decline in the number of migrants at the border.
Polish Deputy Interior Minister Maciej Duszczyk told PAP that weather is a key factor in the decrease in the number of crossings.
