Man Who Raped Belarusian Woman In Center Of Warsaw Has Been Sentenced

On January 17, the Warsaw District Court sentenced Polish citizen Dorian S., who is accused of raping and murdering a Belarusian woman, as well as robbery. His trial began in December and was partially held behind closed doors. Today, on January 17, the man was sentenced to life imprisonment, writes Zerkalo.
The verdict was announced publicly. As demanded by the victims, the prosecutor's office, and representatives of interested public organizations, Dorian S. was found guilty of raping and murdering Belarusian Lizaveta Herzen, as well as committing robbery against her.
The Pole was sentenced to life imprisonment. The sentence has not entered into legal force, the defendant can still appeal it.
According to the investigation, on the night of February 24-25, a man attacked a Belarusian woman in the center of Warsaw. He put a knife to her throat, raped her and tried to strangle her. The young woman was found unconscious on the stairwell of the house at 47 Żurawia Street in Warsaw. She died at the Warsaw Medical University Hospital four days later, on March 1.
Lizaveta was buried in Warsaw on March 15, 2024. A week after the murder, a march “Her name was Liza” was held in the center of the Polish capital in memory of the Belarusian woman.
On suspicion of attempted murder, coupled with rape and robbery, the police detained 23-year-old Warsaw resident Dorian S. The man was taken into custody.
On December 4, 2024, the trial of Dorian S. began in the District Court of Warsaw. The man was charged with sexually motivated murder. He faced 12 years to life in prison. At the very first hearing, Dorian S. partially admitted his guilt, but said that he had no intent to kill. He told the court that he had to pay 1,600 zlotys (1,336 Belarusian rubles) for the apartment, but he did not have the money. The Pole wanted to rob a store or a bar. In court, he said that he saw Ukrainians in one of the establishments, thought of robbing them, but ended up running into Lizaveta.
