Israel has announced the start of a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. The ceasefire became possible after Hamas handed over the list of first hostages scheduled to be released on January 19.

After Hamas handed over the list of hostages scheduled to be released today, Israel announced that the ceasefire would go into effect at 11:15.

The first phase of the ceasefire was originally scheduled to begin today at 8:30. However, it was postponed due to Hamas delaying the handing over of the names of three female hostages scheduled to be released today.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said that it continued to strike Hamas terrorist targets in the Gaza Strip over the past two hours.
