Should We Expect Extraordinary Decisions After Trump's Inauguration?

The Ukrainian diplomat has shared his expectations.

The elected US President Donald Trump spoke at a rally of his supporters at the Capital One Arena in Washington on the eve of his today's inauguration, promising to sign many decrees on his first day in office.

Should we expect anything extraordinary from this day? Charter97.org has talked to Oleh Bilokolos, director of the Centre for National Resilience Studies in Kyiv and former counsellor of the Ukrainian embassy in Canada and Kenya:

- 100 decrees is really an extraordinary event. Everyone is waiting to see what will happen next, what these documents will be about. Probably, they will be aimed at solving domestic policy issues - migration, for example, regulation of the current agenda.

As for foreign policy, I do not expect the texts of decrees on serious issues to appear on the first day. These documents are still being prepared, information is being collected and analysed, the process is not yet complete.

- CNN sources say that Trump has ordered to prepare a phone call with Putin and then a meeting. Will Trump start right away with pressure? Or will it be a formality?

- These kinds of contacts are never entirely formal, even if they appear to be, unless of course it's just a handshake in a corridor somewhere. However, it is worth being objective and sceptical of information, including from CNN. Trump didn't like many of the previous administration's decisions and is likely to view any leaks to the media negatively, that's firstly.

And secondly, even if he instructed to prepare a conversation of such a kind, it should be understood that there are people engaged in this task, they will prepare it technically and substantively. But it is hard to say what results they will come up with.

- Is Putin ready at this point to make concessions if Trump puts pressure?

- Firstly, let's see if Trump does put some pressure, and if so, in what form. And it's hard to say whether the mad dictator is willing to make concessions. It seems to me that Putin lost his adequacy a long time ago, and simple human logic does not work in his actions.

A lot will depend on what ideas and proposals Washington starts working with. And estimating the actions of a man who kills peaceful people on a daily basis is difficult, it is beyond my understanding.
