The traffic police will strengthen control over drivers.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Belarus reports that for seven days, from 29 January to 4 February, traffic police will strengthen control over drivers, violating the ban on using the phone while driving.

The capabilities of the republican system of traffic surveillance, including hidden methods of control, will be used to monitor compliance with the rules.

Penalties for Violations

According to the traffic rules, drivers are prohibited from using phones or other devices not designed for use in a car if it requires holding them in the hand. Violations are punishable by a fine of up to 2 basic units (84 roubles).

Exceptions to the Rules

The penalty does not apply to drivers of special vehicles (ambulance, EMERCOM, police, etc.). It is also allowed to use the phone if the car is parked on the roadside, and the pedestrian is outside the carriageway. It is allowed to use a headset that allows hands-free conversations.
