Washington Plane Crash: New Finds Extracted From Potomac River

CNN reports details.

On Wednesday evening, January 30, an American Airlines passenger plane crashed into a Black Hawk military helicopter while landing near Washington, DC. According to the latest reports, more than 40 bodies were pulled out of the river on Thursday afternoon.

This is reported by CNN.

According to a law enforcement source, the dives are over for the day because of darkness, water conditions and a growing feeling among rescuers that most of the victims, who can be reached without having to lift the fuselage out of the water, have already been found.

The Washington fire chief, the National Transportation Safety Board, American Airlines and other officials are now meeting with victims' families at a family assistance centre.

Also CNN writes that Kansas Governor Laura Kelly has contacted the NTSB about the manifest, a document that lists all passengers and crew members on the flight. It is expected to be received as early as today, Friday (still Thursday in the US).

In addition, Kelly, the NTSB and other US officials are now waiting for all the victims' families to be notified before releasing any details about their identities.

‘There were people from overseas on board the aircraft, and that is partly the reason for the delay ... We will most certainly have the declaration tomorrow afternoon,’ the Kansas governor said.

CNN added during the update that one black box from the CRJ 700 aircraft has already been found. However, it is still not clear which of the two black boxes has been extracted.
